Vancouver, BC, Canada, September 1, 2020, Xebra Brands Ltd. (“Xebra”) is pleased to announce that it has obtained Cannabis Plant Breeding and Research Facility registration in Colombia.

Xebra’s Colombian subsidiary Medicannabis, has obtained official registration for its cannabis breeding and research facility from Colombia’s agricultural authority ICA. Only 40 facilities have been granted such exclusive registrations in the country.

Plant breeding facilities can perform agronomic evaluations for themselves or for third parties, register and patent cultivars, and more exclusively, use of any registered cultivar for research and breeding as outlined in the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) Conventions.

Xebra now has all licenses and authorizations in Colombia, including:

  • License to Cultivate Psychoactive Cannabis Plants
  • License to Cultivate Non-psychoactive Cannabis Plants
  • License to Use Cannabis Seeds for Cultivation
  • License to Produce Cannabis Products
  • Registration as Cannabis Seed Producer
  • Registration as Cannabis Plant Breeding and Research Facility

Xebra is now initiating its own Agronomic Evaluations for 10 of its cannabis cultivars, of which it expects to register at least 3 Psychoactive and 3 Non-psychoactive cultivars, with the aim of requesting a cultivation quota in 2021.
