Mexico City, Vancouver, BC, June 28, 2021, Xebra Brands Ltd. (“Xebra”) is pleased to report that today, the Supreme Court of Mexico ruled that the prohibition on growing cannabis for the sole purpose of personal consumption is unconstitutional.

The resolution which was put forth by Justice Irma Piña Hernandez passed by a vote of 9 to 2 Supreme Court judges.

The ruling is relevant for Xebra as it points to the liberal tendencies of the Mexican Supreme Court on the subject of cannabis, in advance of a crucial Supreme Court vote on Xebra’s constitutional claim, to obtain an injunction authorizing it to be the first in Mexico to legally commercialize hemp derived cannabinoids such as CBD and CBG.

The Supreme Court vote on Xebra’s claim is expected in the short-near-term, pursuant to a resolution that is also expected to be proposed by Supreme Court Justice Irma Piña Hernandez.

Xebra’s claim was filed in January 2019, and the injunction requested includes the right for the importation of seeds, cultivation anywhere in Mexico without limitation on size, harvesting, processing, the creation of cannabis products with less than 1% THC, and the right to sell those products domestically or by export.
